Port Blair, Feb 29: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Diglipur has organised District Level Neighbourhood Youth Parliament on 29th February, 2024 at Naveen Nagar Panchayat Hall with the objectives:
• To create an institutional platform at various levels, where youth can articulate their views on various issues and draw the attention of the local administration to such issues/concerns affecting their lives.
• To provide first-hand exposure to the youth in engaging in dialogue with the following youth within the framework of parliamentary procedures through mock parliament programme.
• To educate youth about various initiatives of the Government and discuss its impact.
• To share their experiences and ideas; debate on various issues concerning the societies in general and youth in particular in presence of advocacy groups and stakeholders namely representatives of PRIS state Government, development partners, service providers, village communities and local administration.
Mr. Sukharanjan Biswas, Deputy Director (OSD), NYK, Diglipur welcomed the chief guest, resource persons as well as all participants. Mr. Dipankar Mistry, Pramukh, Panchayat Samity, Diglipur has inaugurated the programme by enlightening the traditional lamp as the chief guest. Mr. M. Rajendra Kumar, Block Development Officer, Dr. Sipra Mistry, Medical Officer, Mr. Swapan Kumar Mallick, Industries Promotion Officer (IC) and Mr. Subhendu Halder, PGT delivered lectures as resource persons on the themes – New India, New Initiatives; Nari Sakti; Garib Kalyan and Sports, India’s Soft Power respectively. Mock parliament was also drilled by practicing Question Hours similarly the Parliament of India by selecting Speaker, ruling party members and opposition party members among the participants. A spot quiz for the audience with small token gifts was also arranged.
Chief Guest in his speech appreciated the programme and briefed the Importance of the programme for a successful democracy.
