Port Blair, Feb 05: In an effort to promote sportsmanship and keep the youth engaged in constructive activities, the Betapur Volleyball Tournament unfolded over two spirited days on February 3rd and 4th, 2024. The tournament, held at Betapur Forest Ground, saw enthusiastic participation from six teams representing Port Blair, Mayabunder, Diglipur, and the local youth.
The inauguration ceremony welcomed Mr. Venkateswar Rao, Pradhan Gram Panchayat Shivapuram, as the Chief Guest. The tournament, structured as a league cum knockout event, promised trophies and cash prizes for the deserving winner and runner-up. This initiative aimed not only to encourage a sense of healthy competition but also to serve as a deterrent against substance abuse by providing an alternative focus on sports.
The climax of the event witnessed Mr. Venkateswar Rao presenting a generous cash reward of ₹15,000, along with medals and a trophy, to the triumphant Kalapani Betapur team. The runner-up, Betapur 60 Gum Boys, was honored with ₹10,000 in cash, in addition to medals and a trophy.
