
Port Blair, Feb 05: In a decisive move on 05/02/2024, the vigilant team at PS Billiground acted upon credible information regarding the arrival of an individual at Billiground Bazaar for the illicit sale of venison. The operation, led by SI MV Shiju Kumar, SHO PS Billiground, SI MJ Indrajit I/C OP Betapur, HC Amrita Bawali, PCs Anand Kumar and Mohd Mustafa, successfully intercepted the suspect.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Ajeet Toppo, was observed approaching the Police booth with a shoulder bag. A noticeable hesitation and quick retreat upon spotting the police led to the team’s suspicion. A thorough search of the shoulder bag revealed wildlife-protected red meat, suspected to be venison.
During interrogation, Ajeet Toppo, 35yrs, Private Worker, residing at Bamboo Nallah, Webi, Mayabunder, admitted to possession of the venison meat. In light of the prima facie evidence and the commission of a cognizable offence under U/s 50/51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, the seized meat, weighing 12 kg, was confiscated by SI MV Shiju Kumar, SHO PS Billiground.
The accused was arrested following all necessary formalities. Immediate notification of the meat seizure was relayed to Range Officer Betapur and later both the confiscated meat and the arrested individual were handover to forest officials for further necessary action.
The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Rahul Nair IPS, SDPO Rangat and overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
