Port Blair, Feb 05: Vice Admiral MP Muralidharan, AVSM & BAR, NM, Director General Indian Coast Guard, accompanied by Mrs. Jayasree Muralidharan, President Tatrakshika arrived Port Blair on 04 Feb 2013 on their farewell visit to Coast Guard Region (A&N).
During his visit, the Director General Indian Coast Guard held discussions with the Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command Air Marshal PK Roy, AVSM, VM, VSM on various issues including Coastal Security and development plans of the Coast Guard in A&N Region. Later in the day, Admiral Muralidharan inaugurated the newly constructed “Ship Support Complex”. The complex would provide the much needed office space to Coast Guard Shore Units/Establishments involved in providing Administrative and Logistics Support to the ships of the Region thus giving boost and impetus to the operations.
During his interaction with officers and men, the Director General highlighted that post 26/11, Coastal Security has become the priority area for Coast Guard and emphasized the need to strengthen the coastal security measures, considering the strategic location of these Islands from national security point of view. He also took stock of the situation since his last visit in May 12. The DG Coast Guard appreciated the proactive stance of this.
Headquarter in anti-poaching operations, apprehension of large number of illegal immigrants and the co-ordinated efforts for ensuring safety and security of these Islands with other coastal security stake holders. He also apprised about the future expansion plans of Indian Coast Guard, including force augmentation planned for A&N Region, to meet the future challenges.
Mrs. Jayasree Muralidharan, President Tatrakshika also interacted with the ladies of the Coast Guard Region (A&N), and was apprised of various welfare activities and initiatives taken by the Tatrakshika (A&N). The DGICG Vice Admiral MP Muralidharan was presented with 50 men guard of honour in an impressive ceremonial parade, wherein he also awarded the trophy for Best SAR Unit of the Coast Guard to Indian Coast Guard Ship C-145 based at Diglipur.
