Port Blair, Dec 24: As part of World AIDS Day observance, the A&N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) organized a 100 kms Motorbike rally of Community members and Youth yesterday. The rally was flagged off by Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services, A & N Administration in the morning from Veer Savarkar Park in front of National Memorial Cellular Jail. Dr. Pragya Sharma, Director, ANIIMS was the guest of honor. The bikers were in red T-shirts with the World AIDS Day message. The rally went through NH4 till Jirkatang check post and returned back on the same route. The rally was accompanied by Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Van disseminating awareness messages throughout its route.
At Jirkatang check post, Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, ANACS and Dr. Jahanara Yasmeen, Deputy Director (IEC) addressed a convoy of approximately 100 vehicles carrying locals and tourists. After an exciting morning event, the bikers returned on the same route. The motive of the rally was to make a visible impact on society in creating awareness on HIV & AIDS. More than 50 bikers participated with great enthusiasm. Bikers were Community members, Youth, bikers from United Riders of Andaman (URA) and also from ANACS.
This year’s theme to observe World AIDS Day 2023 is “Let Communities Lead”. The world can end AIDS, with communities leading the way.
