Port Blair, Dec. 19: The Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Islands conducted a two days Workshop for the Field Staff and Elephant Mahouts at Biological Park Chidiyatapu on Dec. 18 and 19.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Chief Conservator of Forests (Territorial), Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, IFS and was conducted under the guidance of Shri A. C Tilak, Deputy Director, Biological Park, Chidiyatapu. Renouned Veterinarian & Padma Shri Awardee, Shri. K. K. Sharma, Professor, Assam Agriculture University, Guwahati also known as Elephant Man of Asia and Shri Shubham Patil, Veterinarian, Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust, Jamnagar, experienced in Elephant Management were the Resource Persons for the Workshop to impart useful information and knowledge of elephant behaviour and health issues and identification of significant changes in the gigantic polite mammal and its management and proper care.
The Workshop was attended by 50 participants, Mahouts and Camp Officers nominated by different Forest Divisions .A field visit to the Elephant Camp was also undertaken for thorough understanding of various facts pertaining to elephant care and management. Officers from Veterinary Department also joined the programme for their enrichment. All the participants actively participated in the Workshop and clarified their doubts. The programme concluded with presentation of souvenir to the Resource Persons and distribution of certificates to all participants. The workshop concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri A.C Tilak, Deputy Director, Biological Park, Chidiyatapu.
