Port Blair, Nov 30: In a significant operation, the South Andaman Police, under the guidance of Mr. Kailaivanan R, IPS, Superintendent of Police, successfully apprehended a group involved in illegal timber trafficking. The operation took place on the 29th of November, 2023, at 00:30 hours.
Inspector Mariann, along with Sub-Inspector Sudhir Kumar and their team from PS Pahargaon, conducted the operation near the shore of Attam Pahad Kilaan. They intercepted an engine dinghy, named “BEDFULLY,” bearing the registration number IND. AN. SA No. 2210. The team discovered 120 illegal Padauk woods, estimated to be worth around 2 lakhs.
Four individuals associated with the illegal cutting and selling of Padauk wood were detained at the scene. The case was subsequently handed over to the Forest Authority for further investigation.
The operation was vigilantly supervised by Mr. Sunny Gupta, IPS, SDPO South Andaman, ensuring its success. This event highlights the ongoing efforts of the South Andaman Police to combat illegal activities in the region.
