Port Blair, Nov 29: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh to allot a plot, preferably around one acre in Vizag city. This land allocation would facilitate the construction of an Andaman Guest House by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh the Member of Parliament mentioned that a substantial number of the general public from Andhra Pradesh reside in Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the past several decades, who have played a vital role in building the peaceful society of present day Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
He added that every year, either for education, medical treatment, family relations, official work, or various other purposes they have to visit their native place. For many of these individuals, Visakhapatnam (Vizag) serves as a central point, acting as a transit hub for their journeys back to their respective states and districts.
“Most of the people having roots in Andhra Pradesh belong to East Godavari, West Godavari and Srikakulam District. As Vizag is a crucial point for both ship and flight journeys, individuals often find themselves needing accommodation during their stay. This becomes particularly challenging and expensive, especially for students travelling alone,” he added.
He mentioned that recognizing the need for affordable and secure accommodation, there has been a longstanding demand from the people of Andhra Pradesh for the construction of an Andaman Guest House in Vizag. Similar accommodations have been successfully established in Chennai and Kolkata for residents from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and neighboring states living in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, he said.
In this regard, he requested the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh to allot a plot, preferably around one acre in Vizag city. “This land allocation would facilitate the construction of an Andaman Guest House by Andaman and Nicobar Administration, providing individuals from Andhra Pradesh and nearby regions with a safe, affordable, and comfortable place to stay while in transit between Port Blair and Andhra Pradesh,” he added.
He pointed out that presently an Andaman House with limited facilities is being operated near Vizag port in rented accommodation, which is not sufficient for the large population of people from Andhra Pradesh living in A & N Islands.
