Port Blair, Oct 06: V Yashwant, a teenage chess player from Port Blair has brought laurels to the Islands by achieving the Arena FIDE Master (AFM) title. He is the first player from the Islands to secure the AFM title and the second player from Andaman and Nicobar Islands to achieve any International Title by the World Chess Federation. The ACM Title was achieved recently by Roshan Senthil Kumar, a young chess player from these Islands.
The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has awarded the Arena FIDE Master (AFM) title to Yashwant, a class IX student of Govt. Model Senior Sec. School, Port Blair, in recognition of his exceptional play in the FIDE Online Arena (FOA).
Arena FIDE Master (AFM) is achieved by a series of 150 bullet games, 100 blitz games or 50 rapid online games with a performance rating of over 1400 and the title will be valid for life time however acquirement of a higher title replaces any title reference of a lower status.
