Port Blair, September 28: South Andaman region has witnessed a week of relentless rainfall, shattering previous records.
Officials of Indian Meteorological Department has informed Andaman Sheekha Daily today that Port Blair experienced its highest single-day rainfall in a year, with 154 mm recorded within 24 hours, concluding at 5:30 PM on Thursday.
Several regions across North and Middle Andaman, as well as the Southern Group of Nicobar District, also reported substantial precipitation. Notable rainfall figures include Port Blair (13.5 mm), Mayabunder (9 mm), Long Islands (13 cm), Car Nicobar (28 mm), and Hut Bay (4 mm). The Meteorological Department has meanwhile issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30 to 40 kmph), with rainfall expected to reach 07 to 20 cm over the next three days.
