Port Blair, September 5: A mounting predicament involving the distribution of LPG cylinders in the Nancowry group of islands has garnered attention, with Andaman Sheekha Daily fielding numerous grievances from concerned residents. As per details, the residents of Katchal and Kamorta areas have been grappling with a severe setback in the delivery of LPG cylinders for the past two months, causing widespread inconvenience and distress.
Mr. Aslam Majid, First Captain, emphasized the administrative side of the challenge. He mentioned that payments had been promptly settled by TDCS Kamorta. However, owing to the dearth of available ships, the essential supplies have yet to be dispatched.
In this regard Andaman Sheekha reached out to an official from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), unveiled the crux of the problem. The delay in the distribution process, as disclosed by the official, stems primarily from the unavailability of a cargo ship. Over the course of the last two months, IOCL has persistently sought the deployment of a cargo ship to facilitate the transportation of LPG cylinders. Sadly, the scarcity of available cargo ships has only compounded the issue at hand.
Nevertheless, in a reassuring statement the IOCL official affirmed that a sizable stockpile of LPG cylinders, totaling approximately 800 units, stands poised for immediate dispatch to Kamorta and Katchal. Initial allocation will be addressed in the first voyage, with additional cylinders set to follow in subsequent sailings.
The latest updates indicate that arrangements have been put in motion to secure a cargo ship, and confirmation of the scheduled timeline is anticipated shortly. Once formalized, the LPG cylinders will be swiftly loaded onto the cargo ship, expediting the relief process. It is anticipated that within a few days, the ship will make its way to the affected islands, and soon after that distribution will begin.
