Billyground, Jan 15: Villagers of Billyground brought out a protest rally at Billyground market against an Ambulance Driver of PHC Billyground on Saturday demanding stern action against the driver and his immediate transfer.
Fuming villagers alleged that the driver had reportedly refused to take a serious patient to Port Blair in Ambulance, giving excuse that the Ambulance was out of order. According to villagers, the lady patient was then sent to Port Blair by boat but on the way she died.
This left people of the area fuming and a protest rally was brought out by members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and villagers of the region.
“When I called up the Director of Health Services told me the Ambulance of PHC Billyground was recently repaired at Port Blair and is in good condition, whereas the Driver here is not ready to take even serious patients to Port Blair. If such arrogance and negligence towards duty continues, many other patients would also die in future. We urge Administration to take proper action against the driver and his immediate transfer from this place,” said the Pradhan of area.
Sources in the PHC told Andaman Sheekha that the serous patient was referred to G B Pant Hospital on 13th January 2014 but the driver had refused to take the patient giving excuse of poor condition of ambulance.
