Port Blair, Feb 08: The Bharatiya Janta Party today demanded lifting of ban on sand collection. In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration, Mr. R Mohan, the president of A & N State BJP unit said that because of the ban on extraction of sand in A & N Islands, people are suffering heavily and many are unable to complete their construction work. “Common man has to pay heavy amount for sand at present,” he said.
Considering this, Mr. Mohan requested the Chief Secretary to either lift the ban on sand collection or to fix a certain quantity which can be collected by the agencies so appointed by the Administration for onward disposal of sand to the general public at reasonable rate fixed by the Administration. “This will be provide great relief to the Islanders,” Mohan added.
