Port Blair, August 7: The persistent demand for improved network connectivity in Bakultala is finally gaining traction as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) commences the construction and installation of a new tower. The new tower is set to not only enhance connectivity within Bakultala but also extend their benefits to surrounding villages like Urmilapur, Shyamkund, Bakultala, Bismilapur, Barathpur, and adjoining areas, which have long suffered from inadequate network coverage.
The existing BSNL tower opposite the Bakultala electricity office, due to its age and recurring technical issues, has often caused severe network disruptions and blackouts in the region. While some parts of the villages managed to access Airtel networks, the connectivity remained unreliable. Many residents, unable to afford multiple SIM cards, have eagerly awaited the restoration of dependable BSNL services.
Mr. Narayan Mondal, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Bakultala, expressed gratitude to the BSNL Chief General Manager of Andaman and Nicobar Region and BSNL officers for taking action. He noted that while the tender was awarded to an Odisha-based company six months ago, work had not commenced until recently. After repeated appeals, site clearing began recently, and the contractor has pledged to start construction within 10 days.
The installation of the new tower, covering a three-kilometer radius around Bakultala, is expected to significantly improve internet and connectivity services, fulfilling a long-standing need for better communication in the region.
