Port Blair, July 27: Mr. AjoyBairagi, the State President of BJP, led a press conference today at the BJP State Office located at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bhawan, Middle Point, to counter the continuous press meets conducted by the Congress party. The conference was attended by prominent BJP leaders, including Mr. K Ramdas, State General Secretary; Mrs. Sheela Singh, State Vice President; Dr.Devdas, State Secretary; and Mr. Angshuman Roy, State Vice President of BJYM.
During the press conference, Mr. Bairagi firmly criticized the Congress Party for their recent press meets, where they allegedly raised unfounded allegations against the BJP, both at the national level and in matters concerning the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In response to these allegations, the BJP called the press meet to clarify the situation and set the record straight.
One of the key issues addressed during the conference was related to the recent inauguration of the Terminal Building of the Andaman and Nicobar Airport by Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi on 18th July. Mr. Bairagi explained that the new terminal building has not yet started its full operation, and some final work, particularly related to CCTV installation, is still underway. However, due to heavy rainfall, some damages occurred in the building. Despite the ongoing work, the Congress Party, led by President Ranga Lall Halder, made baseless accusations of corruption against the Administration, Contractors, and the Central Government Ministry.
Amidst the rebuttal, Mr. Bairagi also took the opportunity to emphasize the remarkable achievements of the Narendra Modi government concerning Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He highlighted the progress made in the construction of the 333 KM long National Highway, the Chennai-Andaman Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) project, and the New Airport International Terminal Building. Additionally, he mentioned the successful launch of two 500-passenger cum cargo ships, MV Shindu and MV Nalanda, and the ongoing efforts to establish a medical college and a Transshipment port in Campbell Bay.
During the press meet, Dr.Devdas, the State Secretary, touched upon the situation in Manipur, stating that the state has a long history of ethnic rivalries between the Meitei and Kuki communities. He clarified that the recent violence was triggered by a court ruling that granted the majority Meitei “scheduled tribal status,” leading to conflicts with the minority Kuki tribe. Dr.Devdas refuted Congress’s accusations against the BJP over the matter and pointed out that similar issues have occurred during the rule of opposition parties like Congress in states such as West Bengal and Rajasthan, where they were reluctant to address atrocities against women.
