Port Blair, July 21: In a significant breakthrough, the Central Crime Station (CCS) of Port Blair successfully intercepted a drug trafficking network, resulting in the seizure of a commercial quantity of Methamphetamine. The raid, carried out on 11th July 2023, near Nescafe Shop at Mazar Pahad, yielded 5.62 grams of the banned substance and from that lead a series of other arrests have been made now.
During a press conference held at the CID office, Port Blair today, the Mr. Sanjay Tyagi, IPS, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID) briefed the media about the recent recoveries and arrests made by the CCS Unit. The accused, identified as S. Karthick (34) years, a private worker from Sippighat, Bambanallah, was apprehended in connection with the contraband recovery. Following intensive interrogation and technical analysis, vital information about his associate, S. Balamurugan (23) years from Bambanallah, Sippighat, came to light.
Acting on the disclosed information, the CCS team recovered a substantial quantity of 739 grams of Methamphetamine from Arecanut Plantation near Invent Public School, Bambanallah, Sippighat. Subsequently, an additional commercial quantity of 202 grams of the illicit drug was seized at the instance of the accused.
The combined efforts of the CCS Unit resulted in the recovery of a total of 946.62 grams of Methamphetamine, dealing a significant blow to the drug peddling network in the region. The investigation led to the revelation of the involvement of a main supplier, Rajender Singh, who confessed to providing one packet of approximately 1 kg of Methamphetamine to accused S. Karthick for distribution in Port Blair and surrounding areas.
The CCS has gathered multiple pieces of evidence, including call details and financial transactions, and the investigation is ongoing to identify further linkages within the drug trafficking network. This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Central Crime Station to combat the drug menace that plagues our society.
