Port Blair, July 12: Science Centre, Port Blair Organized Van Mahotsav Celebration 2023 in Coordination with Social Forestry Division, Department of Environment and Forest, and Botanical Survey of India on 12th July 2023. Regional Head & Joint Director of BSI, Dr. Lal Singh inaugurated the Tree planting programme by planting saplings of Rudraksha tree (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb. ex G.Don) at the Science Centre. As a chief guest Dr. Singh emphasized the significance of plants on earth and motivated all the participants to conserve plants for a better future. Participants from various schools, forest department and civilians planted over 100 saplings at the Science Centre premise and then all participants visited the Experimental Garden of Botanical Survey of India. During the garden visit, Garden in Charge Dr. Anil Kr. Midigesi & Botanists, Dr. P.A. Dhole interacted with all the participants and explained about the unique plant diversity and ex-situ conservation of plants and their resources at Experimental Garden.
