Port Blair, July 6: The introduction of helicopter services by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has significantly reduced the travel time between Little Andaman and Port Blair from 120 km to just 30 minutes. However, passengers travelling from Little Andaman Islands are currently facing inconveniences due to the absence of a proper waiting shed at the Little Andaman helipad, particularly during the hot summer days.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. Varudevan Nair, Zilla Parishad Member of Hutbay expressed concern about the lack of a seating facility for passengers at the small room on the helipad. This poses challenges, especially for patients requiring evacuation and other individuals who have to endure the scorching heat or rainfall while waiting at the helipad.
Mr. Nair emphasized the need for the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to construct an air-conditioned waiting shed with modern facilities for the comfort of passengers. He also urged the authorities to provide necessary equipment to minimize the passengers’ discomfort caused by the scorching heat and rainfall.
The current situation at the helipad leaves passengers waiting inside a crowded room intended for official use, where baggage weighing takes place. This overcrowding further exacerbates the inconvenience faced by passengers.
Passengers at the Little Andaman helipad appeal to the Andaman and Nicobar administration to take prompt action and address their concerns by constructing a proper waiting shed equipped with modern amenities.
