Port Blair, June 22: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration in coordination with DistrictAdministration, Nicobar, Indian Coast Guard (A&N) and 04 Bn, National Disaster Response Force has organizing 12 days Disaster Management Training from 22.06.2023 to 06.07.2023 at Community Hall, Campbell Bay forcommunity volunteers (AapdaMitras) of Great Nicobar under Up-scaling of Aapda Mitra Scheme.
The scheme will be implemented byNational Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in partnership with State/UTGovernments and State Disaster Management Authorities. The scheme focuses on training of 1,00,000 community volunteers in 350 highly vulnerable districts, prone to flood, landslide,cyclone and earthquake in India by March 2024. The A&N Administration is implementingUp-scaling of Aapda Mitra inthree districts of A&N Islands targeting to train 300 community volunteers.
While welcoming the gathering, Chief Guest and other distinguished guests on the occasion, Shri Sanju Sinha, SI, NDRF briefed the Aapda Mitra Scheme and its implementation in A&N Islands. He explained that, the scheme aims to provide community volunteers with the basic skillsthey will require for responding to their community’s immediate needs during and in theaftermath of a disaster. These trained volunteers can assist in saving lives using the basictechniques of disaster response, coordination and management.
Addressing the gathering the Chief Guest Shri Abhishek Gulia, Assistant Commissioner, Great Nicobar explained his keenness in total participation andcooperation of all for successful completion of this Disaster Management Training which willbe imparting to Community Volunteer to build better capacity and their skill towardsdisaster preparedness and capacity building. He also stressed upon theactive participation in the training so as to prepare themselves tofight with disaster situation as first responders in the community level. Shri Barnabas, Chairman (Tribal Council), PradhansSmtiRameshwari and Shri Venkat Rao and Up-Pradhan Shri Emmanuvel of Great Nicobar were also attended as Guest of Honour on the occasion.
