Port Blair, June 15: On the occasion of “World Blood Donor Day” 2023, Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) in coordination with Blood Bank, G. B. Pant Hospital, Directorate of Health Service, supports organized blood donation camps at various intuition/ organizations.
Industrial Training Institute, Dolloygunj, Port Blair organized a blood donation camp at Multipurpose Hall ITI on 14/06/2023, 31 units of blood were donated.
CISF Unit Port, Directorate of LightHouses and Lightships and Department of Fisheries, Port Blair also donated blood at Blood Bank, G.B. Pant Hospital, a total of 27 units of blood were donated.
Similarly INS Karmuk, Indian Naval Component, Port Blair also organized a blood donation camp at Dweep Milan, Haddo on 13/06/2023. 63 units of blood were donated.
All 121 units of blood were donated by voluntary donors on this auspicious occasion.
The camps were organized under the supervision of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A & N Islands. Speaking on this occasion he highlighted this year slogan “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often” It focuses on patient requiring lifelong transfusion support and underlines the role every single person can play, by giving the valuable gift of blood or plasma. The activities were conducted under the celebration of “Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav” approved under “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. Finally he thanked to all the voluntary blood donors for participating and donating blood on this auspicious occasion.
The Blood Donation camp was facilitated by Dr. Shahina Mustaquim, Deputy Director (BS)/Medical Officer i/c. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed various aspects and importance of blood donation. Youth of Andaman were motivated to become regular blood donors on any occasion so that there is early accessibility to safe blood all the time for everyone. There is an acute shortage of blood and the need is round the clock 365 days for accidents, dialysis patients, cancer patients, Blood disorders etc. So, the regular voluntary blood donors that can fully fill the requirement of blood.
Mr. Venketesh, Ch, Principal / Deputy Apprenticeship Advisor, Industrial Training Institute, Dollygunj motivated the voluntary donors to donate blood fearlessly and he also said that ITI is ready to take part in any social activity, like blood donation camp.
The technical team from Blood Bank, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair and A & N AIDS Control Society ensured that the donated blood units were screened for the blood transmissible diseases. Donors’ certificates were also distributed to the voluntary donors.
