Port Blair, Jan 03: The Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank has been the overall award winner for 2008-9, 2010-11 and 2011-12. Yoganand Shastri MLA Delhi gave away the award in a function held recently in Delhi. Prakash Bakshi Chairman Nabard was also present on the occasion.
The bank of the union territory has won this award from the National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) for its overall performance spanning several years.
Talking to the media, Bhagat Singh chairman of the award winning bank said his bank has introduced cooperative cards for the door delivery of pension for old people, widows and physically challenged people.
Tracing the history of the cooperative movement in the far flung territory, he said it began in 1926 as per the cooperative societies act, 1912. The bank now functions throughout the union territory through its various branches.
