Port Blair, Mar 26: The Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Prof. Nageshwar Rao is on a five day visit to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. During his visit today he interacted with the staff of the Regional Centre, Study Centre functionaries from JNRM, and Engineers from the CPWD. Vice Chancellor highlighted how IGNOU has expanded its roots in the whole of Andamans since its inception in 2006 and how it is catering the students even in the remotest of Islands in the union territory. He expressed his pleasure at how the Study Centers are functioning and how it is playing an important role in providing support service to the learners. He also expressed his happiness for introducing new programmes in the recent time and how this job oriented and professional programs are helping the learners to up build their skills and knowledge. In his welcome address, Dr .R V R Murthy, Regional Director apprised about the activities undertaken by the centre. Further he also appreciated the versatile academic excellence of Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice chancellor, IGNOU. Prior, he served as Director, Indian Institute of Advanced studies, Shimla, Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Open University, Uttar Pradesh Rajashri Open University and Honorary Fellow of Commonwealth learning. For his outstanding contribution to Hindi, Guwahati University is decorated with D. Litt Degree. Currently Prof. Nageshwar Rao is Chairman of National Task Force for Open Universities.
Later in the evening the Vice Chancellor visited the under-construction site of IGNOU Regional Centre that is coming up near the Air Cargo complex at VIP road. The construction is almost 85% complete and the Vice Chancellor expressed his pleasure to the Executive Engineer, CPWD for timely progress of the construction work. The Executive Engineer assured that the new Regional Centre building will be handed over by April end. The Vice Chancellor will be leaving back to New Delhi on the 29th March 2023 after his tour.
