Port Blair, Mar 13: The valedictory function of Food Processing organized by Unnati at Shoal Bay-19 concluded on 11-03-2023 with the support of NABARD. On this occasion, Mr. C. Arvind Secretary Personal and Finance was Chief Guest and Mrs. Kanchan Mallick W/o Late. Haren Mallick who was praiseworthy for development of Shoal Bay-19 was Guest of Honor. Chief Guest also on his way to Shoal Bay-19 visited the MEDP on Tailoring, Fashion Designing and Sewing Machine Repairing run by Unnati at Shoal Bay-12 and interacted with the trainees and Self Help Group members.
While welcoming the other officials, non-officials and trainees, President Unnati thanked NABARD for supporting MEDP programmes and also Panchayat and Block for their association in organizing the programme during Amrit Kaal Period. He also mentioned that fisheries is considered a thrust sector for overall development of A&N Islands by the Govt. under one District one programme besides PMMSY beneficiaries oriented programme also assistance are available for 28 fisheries related activities.
Chief Guest Mr. C. Arvind in his address advised the trainees to avail various facilities which are being provided under various self employment schemes and also clarified various issues raised by trainees. During interaction, main points raised are financial assistance for purchasing of sewing machines, matter related to food processing like packing materials, marketing of products, more bus trips, permission for plying dinghy and road to reach tourists to beach, arrangement for purchase of raw materials from mainland at cheaper rate, to tie up with Andaman Chamber of Commerce for supply order for ready-made clothes after collecting requirement of readymade clothes from shopkeepers, permission to Self Help Groups to set-up shops at revenue land adjacent to road for selling products to tourist. Chief Guest advised Pradhan to write issues raised to concerned Departments with a copy to him for follow-up action. The Chief Guest also emphasized the quality and branding of products.
Mrs. Shaban Banu Assistant Manager NABARD and Mr. Rajinder Paul Block Development officer also explained in details about schemes and assistance available from their Department. Mr. A. R. Kumar Pradhan also expressed his gratitude to NABARD and Unnati for organizing such a useful programme in his Panchayat.
