Port Blair, March 13: The people of Port Blair continue to face difficulties with the regular supply of electricity. The Electricity Department has been working to strengthen its power generation of Diesel Generator sets in the Electricity Power House to tackle issues of power outage and low voltage. However, sources said that the installation of a new DG Set of 10 MW in Bambooflat has been delayed, causing further problems for the residents of the city.
According to a senior officer from the Electricity Department, the deficiency of power in South Andaman is around 3 to 6 MW during evening hours, which is the reason behind the load shedding in this region. The department is making efforts to rectify the issue and provide uninterrupted power supply to the residents.
“We did not get approval from regulating authority and it will take some time for installation. We are trying all possible ways to provide uninterrupted power supply. Electricity department power house electricity generation is 5 MW and private hiring production is around 30 MW. We have requested to increase power generation more by rectifying all the DG Set problems,” said the senior officer.
The officer also mentioned that private hiring plant engineers are working to rectify engine problems, and the department is hoping for better supply in the coming days. The board examinations are ongoing, and the workers are working day and night for better electricity supply.
Despite promises of regular uninterrupted power supply, the people of Port Blair are frustrated with the lack of visible action taken by officials to restore power supply as per their commitment. Load shedding continues to affect the daily lives of the people, and now the installation of the new DG Set in Bambooflat has also been delayed.
