Port Blair, Mar 02: Training on Tailoring, Fashion Designing and Sewing Machine Repairing at Shoal Bay-12 started by Unnati on 27-02-2023 in association with the Rural Development Department and Shoal Bay Panchayat with the support of NABARD, 23 ladies identified by Block functionaries. A simple function was organized in presence of S/s A. R. Kumar Pradhan Shoal Bay, Rajinder Paul Block Development officer, Joshaba old settler, Francis Panchayat Samiti Member, field staff of Rural Development Department and President Unnati. Mr. A. R. Kumar welcomed the gatherings and thanked NABARD for extending support and also Unnati for inclusion of additional candidates sponsored by Panchayat. He urged the need to consult PRIs while selecting beneficiaries and also involvement of Panchayat for people’s participation for effective implementation of development programme. Mr. C. Mohammed President Unnati mentioned that his organization is keen to implement development programmes in Shoal Bay Panchayat for promoting self-employment. Already 02 training programme are going on in the Panchayat on food processing and tailoring, fashion designing and sewing machine repairing but for that we all i.e. Govt. Department, PRIs and CBOs need to work together and follow the concept of convergence to strengthen the poor reach to the entitlements and enhance public’s participation setting aside unnecessary restrictions. Therefore all work in tandem and reinforce each other’s work. Mr. Francis said that Shoal Bay needs to receive special attention because of the poor economic conditions of villagers. He assured his full support and request to organize an awareness programme at Shoal Bay-9 for the benefit of unemployed youths, Self Help Groups and Joint Liability Groups. Mr. Joshaba is one of the oldest settlers of Shoal Bay and was actively involved in his early age for the development of Shoal Bay narrated various past incidents and also contributions of former Lt. Governor Mr. T. S. Oberoi who was the first Lt. Governor visited Shoal Bay-19 after a long walk. Mr. Rajinder Paul in his inaugural address specially mentioned about the quality of training being imparted by Unnati for enhancing capacity building and skill up-gradation. He said he and his staff are doing their best for implementation of development programmes even then if the Panchayat feels there is lack of coordination; the same can be resolved in joint meetings at frequent intervals.
