Port Blair, Feb 28: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has demanded early consideration of the grievances of the Part Time Pre-Primary Teachers, Ayah, Safai Karmachari of the Education department regarding enhancement of salary, providing payment during summer vacation and providing other benefits like Casual Leave, EPF, Maternity leave etc at the earliest possible.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration the Member of Parliament mentioned that altogether 750 of Part Time Pre-Primary Teachers, Ayah, Safai Karmachari staff are working in the education department since the last 15-20 years at the respective schools without any other benefits except lump sum amount being paid on monthly basis.
He pointed out that presently they are being paid at Rs.10,500 for Part Time Teachers while Rs.8500/- is paid to Part time Ayah, Safar Karmacharies and Attenders and no salary is being paid to them during the summer vacations for two months.
The Member of Parliament added that they have been working in the education department for the last 20 years continuously.
He mentioned that other than the salary being paid by the department, they have no other source of income for their livelihood to meet their obligatory expenses such as house rent, children education, medical expenses for themselves and dependent family members including old-age parents.
He added that he has already taken up this matter with the Administration from time to time to enhance their monthly salary and other benefits such as reasonable salary, Casual leave, EPF salary during summer vacation as provided to the Part Time Teachers engaged on contractual basis.
He requested the Chief Secretary to consider the grievances of Part Time Pre Primary Teachers, Instructors, Ayah, Safai Karmacharies, Attenders etc sympathetically for enhancement of salary, providing payment during summer vacation and providing other benefits like Casual Leave, EPF, Maternity leave etc at the earliest possible.
