Port Blair, Feb 23: The Directorate of Industries, Andaman and Nicobar Administration organized a short term skill development training program on ‘Handicrafts (Coconut Shell, Wood and Cane & Bamboo) products’ for ‘Great Andamanese’ at Strait Island from Feb 8 to 18, 2023. Altogether, 15 candidates participated in program received training in basic skills and knowledge for making handicrafts, thus creating self-employment opportunities and avenues for their livelihood.
The programme ended on Feb 18, 2023 with a concluding session organized in the training venue. The session was graced by Dr. Pronob Kumar Sircar, Tribal Welfare Officer, AAJVS, Strait Island. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sircar, appreciated the efforts of Industries Department for reaching out to far flung tribal area and lauded the handicraft products made by the trainees and advised them to apply the skills obtained during the course of the training program for their livelihood.
