Port Blair, Dec 21: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has sanctioned two lakh rupees to Mr. K. Sekar R/o Gandhi Nagar, Campbell Bay who had lost his two children Kumar S. Ajay aged ten years and Kumari S. Sweta aged seven and a half years when they had gone to play near the seashore with four other children in August 2012.
Rescue operations were carried out by Police, Coast Guard and the local villagers but only the dead body of the girl child was recovered and the body of the boy could not be found even after intensive search for forty eight hours. The children had been washed away during receding low tide.
Mr. K. Sekar had also suffered during tsunami and now residing in the permanent shelter at Gandhi Nagar. Keeping in view the report sent by district administration, the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands has sanctioned the ex-gratia.
