Port Blair, Feb 22: A Periodic field survey was conducted by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Port Blair to identify pest and disease associated with Arecanut and Coconut at Harminder Bay, Rabindranath Nagar, Ramakrishnapur, Vivekanandapur along with Mrs. Jacinta Baig, Agri Officer, Alfred Abraham, AA, Joshua Paul, AFA, Tapan Biswas, AFA, Directorate of Agriculture, Little Andaman.
Dr. Shiva Kumar H.D., APPO(WS) from CIPMC, Port Blair visited the affected Orchards and observed Leaf Spot, Bacterial Leaf Blight, Fruit Rot & Crown Rot, Inflorescence Dieback, Yellow leaf disease, Stem Splitting and Nut Cracking, Rugose Spiralling Whitefly infestation in Arecanut Palms and Rhinoceros Beetle, Rugose Spiralling Whitefly sporadic incidence in Coconut Orchards.
Meanwhile Dr. Shiva Kumar H.D., APPO(WS) interacted with Parimal Mondal, Pradhan, Vivekanandapur, Asamanjan Halder, ZP Member, Ramakrishnapur, Andrew Moses, 1stHeadMan, Harminder Bay and farmers of Harminder Bay, Rabindranath Nagar, RKpur, VKpur villages and advocated for Integrated Pest Management(IPM) through balanced nutrition along with MOP, Borax and Zinc Sulphate, application of Farm Yard Manure(FYM), Trichoderma, Neem Cake, Lime at right quantity, spraying of Neem Oil and Borax Mixture using Doti Sprayer and use of Yellow Sticky Traps for RS Whitefly, Light traps, bucket traps for Rhinoceros Beetle. Need to provide good drainage to overcome the disease. Urged the farmers to adopt IPM to increase the sustainable yield of Arecanut and Coconut and control the death of palms. Advisory on Coconut Rugose Spiralling Whitefly (RSW) issued by PPA, DDPQ&S was conveyed to Farmers and Directorate of Agriculture.
