Port Blair, Feb 16: The Department of Home Science, JNRM, in association with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India organizing a Two days Capacity Building Workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention for Anganwadi Workers from 16th to 17th February 2023.
During the inauguration the Chief Guest Ms. Iti Agarwal, DANICS, Director (Social Welfare), A & N Administration has described that the Drug and Substance Abuse prevention is inevitable for the betterment of society. Ms.Iti Agarwal has described how drugs and its addiction can stop the vibrant growth of countries and its economic development. There is a need to strengthen the supply reduction strategy through law enforcement agencies and the role of Anganwadi Workers is noteworthy for this noble cause, she added. The demand deduction and supply reduction jointly achieved through creating awareness to the community and young minds. For the longer run, education is important and through which we can bring change in the society, she opined.
Dr.H.K.Sharma, Principal, JNRM, informed the gathering about the scenario of drug abuse in various countries. Due to drugs and alcohol the crime rate has been escalating. The productive age group like college students is the asset for our county and being a fast growing economy we too have limitations like drug abuse and addiction and need to be tackled with care, he added.
Dr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Homescience and Convener of this programme informed that the country like India which has rich demographic dividend should tap the potential of youngsters and hone their skills for the betterment of society. For which the role of Anganwadi workers are paramount of importance, he added. Earlier Mrs.Nidhi Shekhawat Assistant Professor of Home Science welcomed the gathering and Dr.Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science proposed vote of thanks. Mrs.Poonam Singh, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the programme. Followed by the inaugural session technical sessions were handled by Mr.Suyash Verma, Assistant Professor (Law), Andaman Law College, Ms.Bincy.V.Kuruvilla, Tutor, School of Nursing, Dr.Rekha Kumari, Resource Person, Department of Home Science, Ms.EvangelinSantharani, Psychiatric Social Worker.
