Port Blair, Nov 10: Former Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Jitendra Narain, who is facing gang rape charges, has been arrested. He was called for questioning in Port Blair. He had joined the probe after being summoned. Earlier, his bail plea was rejected today.
Mr. Jitendra Narain, accused of raping a woman, was suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs in October. The ministry recently said that it had received a report from the Andaman and Nicobar Police, accusing Mr. Narain and others of sexually assaulting a woman when he was the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The report indicated the possibility of grave misconduct and misuse of his official position by Mr. Narain. The case is being investigated separately by a Special Investigation Team of the Andaman and Nicobar Police.
After arrest the former CS was taken to Police Line from where he was taken to G B Pant Hospital for a medical test in the evening. Finally from G B Pant Mr. Narain was taken to PS Aberdeen at night.
