Port Blair, Oct 26: In a bid to highlight the matter of the fire victims of Aerial Bay, Diglipur Mr. AjoyBairagi, shot a letter to the Lieutenant Governor, the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, A & N Islands, yesterday, demanding adequate compensation to the Fire Accident victims of Aerial Bay, Diglipur& fixing responsibility upon the concerned Fire Brigade personnel for unimaginable delay in reaching the Accident spot.
“It is extremely sad to place the facts regarding the extensive losses suffered by the victims of the fire accident that took place on 18th October, 2022 at Aerial Bay, Diglipur, North & Middle Andaman District.” the letter read.
He wrote in the letter that, upon receipt of the information regarding the aforesaid fire accident on 19th October, 2022, he immediately rushed to the place of occurrence and met the victims. He then found that altogether nine shops were completely gutted in the fire and except ashes nothing was left, he claimed in his letter.
During his visit, he came to know from the local people of that area how massive the fire was; he was also informed by them that the basic reason due to which the same could not be controlled was the unimaginable delay in reaching the spot by the Fire Brigade personnel, Mr. Bairagi mentioned in the letter. “It was reported to me by several local people of that locality who witnesses the incident that, despite receipt of information immediately regarding the Fire, the Fire Brigade reached the spot after more than one hour, whereas the distance from the Fire Brigade to the spot is hardly (10)ten minutes.”, the BJP State President claimed in his letter.
“Such delay is neither acceptable nor condonable and therefore I humbly request your good selves to kindly fix responsibility upon the Fire Service officials & take appropriate action, as deemed fit under the law.”, Mr. Bairagi wrote.
Mr. Bairagi urged the Lieutenant Governor to impress upon the concerned authorities to conduct a proper assessment of damages sustained by the fire victims.

Pleading with the Governor, Mr. Bairagi implored the LG and other higher authorities to direct the concerned officials to conduct proper assessment of damages caused due to the aforementioned Fire accident, fix responsibilities upon the Fire brigade personnel and properly rehabilitate the victims by awarding adequate compensation from Lt. Governor’s relief fund or any other authorized sources, as deems fit and proper, the letter further read.
