Port Blair, Oct 26: After a long wait, the 500 pax special trade passenger vessel MV Nalanda will be inducted into service by Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Admiral (Retd.) D K Joshi. The Induction ceremony will be held at Haddo Wharf, Port Blair tomorrow at 10.00 AM.
As per the official confirmation from the Office of the Directorate of Shipping Services, Port Blair, all the repair works of MV Nalanda have been completed.
On 18th August the new vessel MV Nalanda reportedly hit Haddo Port’s RCC structure while berthing at Gate No. 04 in Haddo Wharf. The impact was so hard that the new ship suffered major dents.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, a senior Official of the DSS said today that the ship is ready in all respects, repair works as well as its thorough survey by the officials of SCI and MMD have been done. He further said that trial runs have already been completed, and the CSL team gave the required training to the crew members as well.
“The DSS has arranged an induction program at Haddo Jetty where the honorable Lieutenant Governor will inaugurate the ship in presence of officials of CSL, SCI and other senior officials of the Administration. The sailing program of the vessel will be released soon,” the official said.
