Port Blair, Oct 19:Marine Litter poses a vast and growing threat to the marine and coastal environment. Around 8 million items of litter enter the marine environment every day endangering the species in the ocean.
Yuva Bharat Samaj Seva Charitable Trust organized a cleanliness drive at Burmanallah on 16/10/2022 in collaboration with local fishermen and volunteers and collected 15 bags of garbage which includes solid waste, polythene bags, plastic bottles, glass bottles, and food wrappers, and proper disposal of the said waste was ensured with the support of Gram Panchayat from the seashore.
It was a worthwhile cleanup and YBSSCT took pleasure in what they done. It was surprising to see the huge heap of garbage collected from a small area of the beach.
They expressed their gratitude towards the Directorate of RD, PRIs, and ULBs for providing vehicle facilities and manpower, for the removal and disposal of the collected garbage.
The main reason for the cleanup drive was to have an immediate positive impact on our environment by removing trash and making our surrounding a better place to live in. To understand cleaning isn’t easy work, but when we do it together we can surely make a difference.
