Port Blair, Nov 10: The Conference of Indian National Trade Union Congress, AN Islands was held on 7th December, 2012 in the Panchayat Hall of Wimberlygunj, which was attended by about one thousand delegates from all unions affiliated with INTUC of South Andaman and from Campbell bay, Diglipur, Mayabunder, and Rangat.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has inaugurated the conference. In his welcome address Mr. AP Jabir Vice President RCD, APWD, Employees Union briefed the activities of INTUC in A&N Islands.
Subsequently, Mr. K.P.Aboobacker, General Secretary INTUC presented a brief account of the report of activities of the unions. Mr. Aboobacker stated that the first large scale labour agitation was witnessed by the Islanders during the year 1962 involving some casualties, but the said movement worked as an eye opener for the employers resulting in to flow of series of concessions and allowances in favour of the working class.
In this context the contribution made by INTUC and its affiliated trade unions also strengthened the bargaining power of the workforce of these Islands. The INTUC has passed its journey from 1950’s under the leadership of many veteran trade unionists and today this organization is flourishing and strengthening under the dynamic leadership of the President INTUC Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
The senior leaders of INTUC Mr. Gyan Krishna General Secretary INTUC, Mr. K.P.Usman Vice President INTUC, Mr. Mohammed Ali, Mr. Sidhiqui, Mr. Hameed Ali, Mr. Kannan, President GEF, Mr. Noorul Islam, Mr. Farooque Alam, Mrs. Shanta laxman Singh, Ms. Mariyam bibi spoke in details about the achievements of INTUC during the last years.
