I extend my warm Greetings to all Islanders of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, Durga Puja and Vijayadashami.
May the day bring happiness and joy to every Islander, our families, our society and also to our Islands.
Dussehra is celebrated across India and some other countries by burning the effigies of Ravana (demon king in ancient epic Ramayana) in open fields to symbolise the victory of good over evil. According to Ramayana, it was on this day that Lord Ram defeated Ravan, the king of Lanka.
Let us celebrate Lord Rama as a reflection of the moral and eternal values that have guided our way of life since time immemorial.
It is also known that on this day, Goddess Durga killed demon king Mahishasura. Durga Puja celebrations are a reminder of the Goddess’s victory over evil.
May Goddess Durga guide us to work to empower women in society, especially girl-children.
