Port Blair, Dec 09: The Electricity Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has installed a 10 MW containerized DG set at Port Blair to end the power crisis of the city.
The 10 MW hiring power project has been installed at the Phoenix Bay Power House Complex. “This DG set has put the department in a better position towards uninterrupted power supply,” Mr. Jalaj Srivastava the Principal Secretary (Power) said while addressing a gathering before inaugurating the DG Set.
He said that containerized DG set is the need of the hour as its mobility from one place to other is easy.
“Coming up of this project will do away with the unscheduled power cuts, especially in Port Blair city and its adjoining area,” Principal Secretary (Power) added.
Meanwhile the company, Sudhir Ready Gensets Consortium, has informed the media that at present 16 MW DG set has been brought to these Islands and currently it is providing continuous power supply from 10 MW containerized DG Sets, on hire basis, to electricity Department.
“The company still has 6 MW surplus power which will be provided to the Department as per their requirement,” Mr. Naresh Kumar Gupta the Director of the private power producing company told the gathering.
