Port Blair, Sept. 14: The Health Ministry has planned a nation-wide, mega voluntary blood donation drive called RaktdaanAmritMahotsav on September 17 on the occasion of Honourable Prime Minister, ShriNarendraModi’s birthday, with the aim to collect one lakh units of blood. The drive will continue for 15 days till October 1, which marks the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (NVBDD).
The Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration is organizing RaktdaanAmritMahotsav, a nation-wide, mega voluntary blood donation drive in A & N Islands along with the rest of the nation. The inaugural function of the mega voluntary blood donation drive will be held on Sept. 17 from 9am at JNRM.The Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, ShriKeshav Chandra, IAS will grace the inaugural function as the chief guest. Other dignitaries and officials of A & N Administration will also be present on the occasion.
The event is being organized under ‘RaktdaanAmritMahotsav’. The Ministry has launched a digital platform – E-RaktKosh portal, where people can register themselves to become a part of the donation drive. Additionally, ArogyaSetu – the COVID 19 tracing app, is open for registration for the drive.
Besides collecting life saving blood for its blood banks, the drive also hopes to create a database of donors who can be called upon in times of emergency and replacement of blood donation can be minimized.
Any healthy person in the age group of 18 to 65, not less than 45 kg body weight can donate blood every three months.All the Departments, citizens of the country, especially the youth, various non-government and community-based organizations and other stakeholders have been requested to join this drive and give their support and contribution in achieving the objective of this mega blood donation drive and are requested to pre-register on ArogyaSetu / E-RaktKosh portal.
