Port Blair, Sep 14: The Health Ministry has planned a nationwide, mega voluntary blood donation drive called ‘Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav’ on 17th September 2022, on the occasion of the Birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the aim to collect one lakh units of blood. The drive will continue for 15 days till October 01, which is the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (NVBDD).
The Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration is organizing Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav, a nationwide, mega voluntary blood donation drive in the A&N Islands along with the rest of the nation. The inaugural function of the mega voluntary blood donation drive is on 17th September 2022 from 9.00 AM at Jawaharlal Nehru RajkeeyaMahavidyalaya, Port Blair. Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration will grace the inaugural function as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries and officials of the A&N Administration will also be present for the function.
The event is being organized under ‘Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav’. The ministry has launched a digital platform – E-RaktKosh portal – where people can register themselves to become a part of the donation drive. Additionally, Arogya Setu – the Covid 19 tracing app, is open to register for the drive.
Besides collecting life-saving blood for its blood banks, the drive also hopes to create a database of donors who can be called upon at times of emergency and replacement blood donation minimized.
Any healthy person in the age group of 18 to 65, not less than 45 kg body weight can donate blood every three months.
All the departments, citizens of the country, especially the youth, various non-government and community-based organizations and other stakeholders are requested to join this drive and give their support and contribution in achieving the objective of this mega blood donation drive and are requested to pre-register on Arogya Setu / E-RaktKosh portal.
