
Port Blair, Sep 04: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Former Member of Parliament, A&N Islands requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to immediately fill up all vacant posts of teachers in Govt. Schools.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray mentioned that many qualified trained unemployed teachers had met him citing a huge backlog in vacancies of teachers in Govt. Schools. He stated that as per RTI response, the total vacant posts in Group B above posts in the department are PST-464 posts, GTT-287 posts, PGT-95 posts, CI-27 posts, PET-10 posts, Lib Gr. II -22 posts, Lib Gr-III – 05 and Vacancies in Group C post of Lab Assistant is 35.
He further mentioned that on enquiries it has revealed that due to such a huge backlog of vacancies, there is extra pressure on existing teachers and many schools do not have subject teachers at all.
Therefore, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to direct the concerned authorities to immediately filling up the vacant posts in a time-bound manner to improve the quality of education in the Islands.
