Port Blair, May 08: In a major turn of events, the entire Little Andaman Island witnessed a major power failure on 06th May 2022 (Friday) evening at around 4:15 pm. According to reports, there was a complete blackout from Friday evening till the time of reporting this report, in the entire Little Andaman Island.
When enquired it is learned that three DG sets of Little Andaman developed technical snags because of which there was a total blackout in the Island. Immediately the matter was reported to the senior officials of the District Administration. However, it is still not clear why all three DG sets developed technical snags.
According to the sources in the electricity department, it is learned that to repair the DG set some parts were required for the control unit from Mainland India.
Mr. Cherian Mathews, BDO of Little Andaman and Mr. S. Parmanathan, Pramukh of GP Little Andaman and many others instantly took up the matter with senior officials of the A&N Administration.
Most importantly, they requested Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, the Deputy Commissioner of SA to send the spare parts and technical team immediately to Little Andaman so that the DG set could be repaired and the general public of Little Andaman could get some relief from these alarming circumstances.
Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, DC, SA acted promptly and considering the problems being faced by the general public of Little Andaman, he ensured that spare parts required for the repair of DG sets and two technicians reach Little Andaman by Today. Despite bad weather conditions, the Helicopter was sent to Hutbay with required equipment and technicians and the Helicopter landed at 4:30 pm. Earlier, in the first attempt the Helicopter had returned to Port Blair after flying for 10 minutes due to bad weather conditions. But the landing at Hut Bay was successful on the second attempt.
According to sources the technicians initiated the repair work as soon as they reached Hutbay and it was expected that at least one DG set would be repaired by late night. Till last report received the repair works were still in progress.
