Port Blair, Apr 26: The 35th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was held on 26th April 2022. Mr. Pankaj Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Disaster Management/ Information Technology/ Information Publicity and Tourism/ Art & Culture/Agriculture was the Guest of Honour for the Convocation Function at IGNOU Port Blair Regional Centre.
The function was held at Tagore Govt. College of Education Auditorium, Middle Point, Port Blair. At Port Blair Regional Centre 751 students were awarded certificates for 35thConvocation. Among 751 candidates, 42 students collected their degrees and diplomas in person from the Guest of Honour. The Coordinators, Assistant Coordinators, Staff from IGNOU Study Centres/Regional Centre and the general public were present at the Convocation.
The Guest of Honour Mr. Pankaj Kumar emphasized the need to create awareness about tourism studies, and courses for the benefit of Islanders to promote employment. He emphasized the importance of acquiring continuous knowledge to upgrade the skills.
Mr. Pankaj Kumar appreciated the contribution of IGNOU Port Blair Regional Centre in providing quality higher education opportunities and suitability of the ODL system to the Islands.
The Senior Regional of Port Blair Regional Centre Dr. S. Raja Rao has highlighted the various activities and achievements of the Regional Centre during the last one year in his report.
He informed about the new programmes launched by IGNOU recently and assured to open new Study Centres in the coming years in A&N Islands.
Dr. S. Raja Rao in his report stated that the social base of IGNOU Port Blair Regional Centre is expanding among women, SC, ST and OBC candidates in A&N Islands.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Nurul Hassan, Assistant Regional Director, Section Officer Sanjiv Kumar Hira and all the Regional Center Staff were present in the programme.
