Billiground, Apr 11: For the convenience of the general public the STS bus tickets are now available in online mode. Recently the Advance booking of seats available for the bus services has been implemented at all STS units in both districts of South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman.
But instead of bringing relief the new system has become a major source of frustration for the people living in and around the Billyground region.
People of this region complain that they are facing huge difficulties with internet services and since the tickets are issued online they are unable to get STS bus tickets.
It is learnt that at STS Counter the concerned AE of the area has stopped issuing manual tickets from the STS counter to the public. Adding to the pain as there is no facility for internet and computer at AE, Transport office of BIlliground, the transport staffs are unable to help the public in issuing online tickets. Even for the public it is too difficult to even open the online portal for online STS ticket booking.
“For booking an STS ticket one has to go to Rangat from Billiground, where internet facilities are better. A large population from Billiground, Pinakinagar, Sawadesh Nagar and Betapur are solely dependent on the STS ticketing counter of Billiground, which has now stopped issuing manual tickets,” complains a villager.
The Pradhan of Harinagar Gram Panchayat has also written a letter to the concerned department to reconsider the order and has requested to resume issuance of manual STS Tickets from Billiground STS counters keeping in view the largest interest of the people of the region, till the online infrastructure is developed.
When contacted the Deputy Director of the Transport Department told Andaman Sheekha Daily that he will look into the matter. He added that the matter will be discussed with senior officers to solve this issue.
