Port Blair, Mar 15: A Special Meeting of all the newly elected members of Port Blair Municipal Council will be held on 16/03/2022 at 1530 Hrs. in the Conference hall of the Port Blair Municipal Council to administer oath of allegiance to all the newly elected members and thereafter to elect the Chairperson of the Council for the first year term of (2022-2027) tenure under the provision of Section 20 (1) and 14 of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Municipal) Regulation, 1994 respectively read with the Section 197 of the said Regulation
The oath of allegiance to the newly elected Chairperson of the Port Blair Municipal Council will also be administered by the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman on the same day soon after the election.
This is almost certain now that the Chairpersons of PBMC for the first term will be from BJP as TDP and the lone independent candidate has already extended their support to BJP to form the council. At present BJP, TPD and Independent Candidate have 13 votes while Congress and DMK alliance has 11 votes.
Looking at the history of PBMC, last minute permutation and combination during Chairperson elections is also possible but as the BJP is extra cautious with the elected councillors this time, chance of cross voting appears minimum.
