Port Blair, Feb 28: Because of ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine an Island girl namely Ms. Sweta D/o Appala Swamy, 6th year medical student, of SUMY STATE UNIVERSITY, Sumy, North East Ukraine, is stuck in Ukraine along with other students.
“Because of the war, the situation here in Sumy is very critical, the place where I am staying is just 50KM away from Russia borders,” said Ms. Sweta while talking to Andaman Sheekha reporter this evening.
She further requested the Indian Government and Andaman and Nicobar Administration to rescue them as soon as possible, as the situation is becoming more critical everyday.
At present, they have been sheltered in an underground bunker of the university, with limited resources and there are bomb blasts every day in their area. Ms. Sweta and other students are now worried about their safety.
She added that they are staying inside a huge bunker, which is very suffocating. On the other hand there is constant threat of scarcity of food and water, power blackout, network shutdown.
“While students of West Ukraine have been evacuated to Poland, no arrangements have been made for Indian Students in the East side,” she alleged.
Ms. Sweta urged all Islanders to help her and request the Administration as well as the Government of India to rescue her as she is not sure from tomorrow she will be able to access the internet to request for rescue.
