Port Blair, Feb 11: Model Code of Conduct is a tool which helps in maintaining healthy and peaceful atmosphere and provides a level playing field for all parties/candidates. The basic mandate of Model Code of Conduct is to curb the corrupt practices (distribution of liquor or bribery, influencing/pressurizing voter etc.) and to ensure that all electioneering process including permission for loudspeaker and procession is being run on the line prescribed by the Panchayat and Municipal Regulations & Rules and various directions issued by the Election Commission (UTs) time to time.
In case of violation of any provisions of Model Code of Conduct, FIR against the violators will be lodged and stern action will be taken under the relevant provisions of the law.
Similarly, defacement by means of interfering with the appearance of duty, damaging, disfiguring, spoiling or injuring in any other way of any property including building, hut, structure, wall, tree, fence, post, pole or any other erection, be it private (without consent of owner) or public is strictly prohibited under A & N Prevention of Defacement of Property Regulation, 1987. In case of any violation reported the teams constituted police station wise will take necessary action on getting information regarding defacement. FIR will be lodged against the wrongdoer and the contesting candidate who is directly benefitted from the contents of the defacement.
It is brought to the notice of all concerned that those who have unauthorizedly installed hoardings, posters, banners anywhere in the Island are hereby directed to remove the same by 13th February 2022 failing which necessary legal action will be initiated against them.
