
Port Blair, Dec 15: On 10 Dec 21, at about 1326 hours, MFV Akshra, which had departed from Junglighat fishing harbour, Port Blair on 08 Dec 21 for fishing with 05 fishermen onboard, reported engine failure at sea, 20 miles off Spike Island. On receipt of information, the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters at Port Blair, diverted Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ships C-146 and DurgabaiDeshmukh, to provide assistance to the distressed fishing boat. On arrival at datum, the Coast Guard Ship embarked its technical team onboard the fishing boat to carry out necessary rectification. However, due to non-availability of required spares onboard the fishing vessel the defect could not be rectified. Thereafter, ICG Ship DurgabaiDeshmukh took MFV Akshra under tow and entered Port Blair harbour at 2305 hours on 11 Dec 21. The fishing boat alongwith 05 fishermen wassafely handed over to Department of Fisheries, Port Blair.
The assistance provided is reflective of the National effort by all uniformed services of the Andaman and Nicobar Command at Port Blair.
