Port Blair, Dec 05: The affiliated association namely Nagarpalika Swachhtha Karmachari Sangh(NSKS) has represented before the Secretary, Port Blair Municipal Council on 12th August 2021 with basic requirements of Sanitary employees. After a lapse of 47 days on 28th September 2021 a reminder was communicated to workout a plan for the betterment of working conditions of Sanitary Employees. Neither any positive result were intimated nor grounded for the working class after a span of 32 days, then the association NSKS issued a second reminder on 30th October informing that after 15 days protest will be registered under democratic manner, then also no action seen from the part of concerned authorities. Finally on 24th November 2021, NSKS has issued a letter to register the protest on expiry of 7 days of the notice which was also endorsed to the Labour Commissioner office.
Due to non – fulfilment of basic demands such as safe drinking water, brooms, raincoat, handwash soap, safety gears, toilet etc., regular dedicated medical check up for sanitary employees on an interval of 4 months etc.
On 03rdand 04thDecember 2021, the sanitary workers performed their duties with black ribbon in their dress registering their protest for fulfilment of their basic requirements. The protest with black ribbon continued till Sunday i.e. 05th Dec. 2022, a release from Mr. S. Biju Pillai, General Secretary, ANRKM said here today.
