
Port Blair, Oct 14: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today called on Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Lt Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency and discussed some crucial issues of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
During the meeting the Member of Parliament demanded filling up all vacant posts in Andaman and Nicobar Administration immediately with only local candidates.
The Member of Parliament also demanded to start the Flat Bay water project, which has the potential to solve the problem of water crisis, often witnessed in Islands. According to the Member of Parliament keeping the future in mind and considering the expected boom in tourist-footfall after completion of the Airport Terminal Building of Port Blair, it is necessary to plan availability of sufficient water for Islanders as well as visiting tourists. He said that the Rutland water project can fulfill the water requirements of Islanders while the Flat Bay water project has potential to meet the water requirement for our growing Tourism Industry.
The Member of Parliament demanded construction of Bridge between Minnie Bay and Mitha Khadi. He mentioned that if the bridge is constructed, it will not only bring an economic boom in the South Andaman region but also bring more prosperity for Tourism Industry, besides making life easy for Islanders. He said that this bridge will minimize the distance between Port Blair and Jirkatang by nearly 12-15 KM and reduce the time to reach Jirktang by half.
The Member of Parliament also placed the demand of starting International Flights from Port Blair, which will bring foreign tourists to Andaman and give a tremendous economic boost to the Tourism Industry of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He mentioned that International flight will also create thousands of new job opportunities for Island youths.
