Port Blair, Oct 04: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today requested the Chief Secretary to repair the night shelter (Dharamshala), run by PBMC, so that it could be allotted to needy Islanders, who are visiting Port Blair and looking for safe and affordable shelter.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary today the Member of Parliament mentioned that he has been informed by a large number of people from remote Islands that at present Port Blair city’s lone night shelter (Dharamshala), run by Port Blair Municipal Council, is not being allotted to the public as the Dharamshala building is not in good shape.
The MP pointed out that earlier, the Dharamshala used to be the only option for many Islanders, coming to Port Blair for various urgent needs, including medical treatment and other urgent works, because the Dharmshala was very affordable and located very close to Aberdeen Bazaar and G B Pant Hospital.
The Member of Parliament added that now, as the Dharmshala is not allotted to the public they are forced to look for other options like lodges or hotels, which are beyond the reach of common Islanders, visiting Port Blair city from remote Islands.
He requested the Chief Secretary to issue necessary directions to the Secretary of PBMC to repair the Night Shelter (Dharamshala) as early as possible, so that the same could be allotted to the public.
